Passwords Sold for $1,000 on the Darkweb Result in Compromise at the UN!
The United Nations suffered a significant breach that all began thanks to a password leaked to the darkweb and sold for just $1,000. Armed with valid user credentials, attackers were able to gain access to sensitive information that is believed could be used as intelligence for further future attacks. The hackers had access to several UN servers and were inside the network for months!
The UN was alerted to the password on the darkweb thanks to researcher Gene Yoo, the CEO of Resecurity. His cybersecurity firm discovered the breach thanks to darkweb monitoring! They indicated to him that they were already aware and only screenshots were taken; however Yoo found actual stolen data.
